Delicacies from world over at airport

Kolkata:  Kolkata airport's Terminal 2 is all set to transform into a gastronome's paradise with fine-dining and quick-service restaurants, patisserie coffee shops and pubs serving a wide range of food and beverage options.
The massive 25 lakh sq ft steel-and-glass terminal that became operational a year ago appears somewhat lifeless without enough passenger buzz. While the terminal capacity of 20 million passengers per annum is twice the current traffic, sparse retail and food options add to the sense of emptiness.
"Retail stores and food joints add to the overall airport experience. In airports at Tokyo, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Dubai, Frankfurt, London, New York and Los Angeles, one can check in early and spend hours window-shopping, browsing through books and knick-knacks. At home, Delhi and Mumbai airports have evolved nicely in recent years. In Kolkata, we have a magnificent terminal building. Now, life needs to be infused into it by introducing passenger conveniences," said businesswomen and frequent flier Preeti Agarwal.
