Man caught with gold at airport

Kochi: The air intelligence unit of the customs seized over 43 sovereigns of gold worth Rs 10.57 lakh from a passenger at the Cochin international airport on Tuesday.
The gold was seized from Jabir Uthen Mavungal (28), a resident of Cheroor in Malappuram district. According to customs officials, he arrived at Cochin airport from Dubai via Doha by Qatar Airways at 3.10am on Tuesday.
Officials found him wearing a leather belt with a thick metallic buckle. They found the buckle unusually heavy and an examination by a gold assayer found 24 carat gold in the buckle. He was later released.
