Man held with gold worth Rs 52 lakh

Ahmedabad: Customs department on Sunday morning held two men for smuggling gold worth Rs 52.56 lakh at Sardar Vallabhbhai International airport. Ajmer resident Abdul Hussain Saifuddin was caught with 1,754 grams of gold concealed in the side strips of two trolley bags at the city airport.
According to sources, Saifuddin is a first-time carrier. This is the fifth such incident in this month and 26th incident of gold smuggling since January 2014. Customs also detained Ahmedabad-based Kanubhai Soni, who had come to receive delivery of the smuggled gold at the airport.
Saifuddin arrived from Dubai in Air Arabia flight G-09 on Sunday morning and was intercepted and diverted to red channel for detailed examination of his baggage. Acting on a tip-off, customs officials had detained Saifuddin. "Saifuddin had concealed gold weighing 1754 grams in the side strips of the trolley bag in wire form," said a customs official.
