Hyderabad: Customs sleuths at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on Wednesday arrested three women who flew in from Singapore with 5.154 kg gold worth Rs 1.5 crore.
The women, residents of Kothapet, went to Singapore three days ago on a tourist visa. They arrived on a Tiger Airways flight (TR 2624) from Singapore in the wee hours of Wednesday. During screening, the customs officials found out that the women were wearing thick gold strips of a total value of Rs 1.5 crore around their waist under the clothes. The three women were produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
This is the second big gold smuggling bust in the past 48 hours. On Tuesday, directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) officials had nabbed two smugglers who arrived from Dubai on different flights and seized 7.7 kg gold worth Rs 2.17 crore. The two accused, who are from the Old City, had concealed the mercury-coated gold in the base of an iron box.
