Bangalore: As many as 28 students from various states, who had come to the City to write COMEDK undergraduate entrance test, were detained by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Sunday and Monday.
Sources said the students were detained at the airport after CISF staff found discrepancies in their identity cards and COMED-K admission cards.
“Out of the 28 students, 25 claim to be medical aspirants and three are suspected to be their helpers. They all had arrived in the City to write the COMED-K entrance test which was held on Sunday,” added a senior police official. The students were seen gaining entry into the airport by flashing their ID cards, but the alert CISF personnel scrutinised their ID cards along with the entrance exam admission card and found differences in the age and name. They informed the Airport police who came and took the students from the airport. A special team headed by Abhishek Goyal, DCP (Crime) has been formed to probe the matter, the official said.
Sources said 11 students were detained on Sunday while they were trying to leave the City after completing the exams and 17 were detained on Monday evening. Though it is suspected that the students were part of a medical seat blocking racket, sources said that nothing has been confirmed as of now. “For now, an FIR has been registered at the Airport police station and enquiry is being carried out,” an official said.
