Biju Patnaik airport seeks land for runway expansion

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Patnaik Airport authorities have demanded additional 24 acre from the state government for expansion of the runway.
The state government had provided 18 acre last year for it. The additional land will be used for creation of basic strip (150-metre space on either side of the runway). "We demanded more land at a meeting with general administration department officials. Expansion of runway is significant in view of the soon-to-be launched international operations," said airport director Sharad Kumar.
"Since we need more space on either side of the runway for smooth landing, we urged the state government to hand over the required land soon," said an airport official.
The airport authorities have also decided to expand the taxiway from apron (where flights are stationed at the airport) to runway for movement of big aircraft ahead of international operations.
