Varanasi: An Indian Army helicopter and an air ambulance have been made available to the police for the polling on Monday. The chopper would be used to drop armed forces in remote areas of Maoist-affected Sonbhadra, Chandauli and Mirzapur districts in case of emergency. The air ambulance would be stationed at Babatpur airport.
IG, Varanasi zone, Prakash D told TOI on Sunday: "There are 4,349 polling booths in Maoist-affected Sonebhadra, Chandauli and Mirzapur districts. 642 booths are located in the troubled zone spread across 30 police stations, including 17 in Sonebhadra." The IG further said that for the last four months 13 companies of PAC and six companies of central paramilitary forces (CPMF) had been continuously undertaking area dominance operation in the region. "Additional force too has been sent in view of parliamentary election," he added.
