Kochi: The Commercial tax department is planning to set up a facilitation centre near the Cochin International Airport Limited, Nedumbassery. The department thought of such a facility following numerous seizures that took place near the airport.
According to E I Joshy, Assistant Commissioner, Commercial Taxes (Intelligence), a proposal has been forwarded to the state government. “Since the proposal is under the consideration of the government, I can’t comment more on this,” he said.
“We are looking for a suitable land near the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) to set up the facility which will help us intercept the transportation of illegal goods. There is a Customs office functioning inside the airport. A system located outside the airport will help to control illegal transportation of goods,” Joshy said.
