Flyer tries to pay his way through emigration, held

Mumbai:  A traveller was arrested for allegedly offering Rs 2,000 to an official at the Mumbai airport to get his passport stamped without completing emigration formalities. The Sahar police arrested Kashimira resident Mohammed Shaikh (54) and an airline ticket staffer for advising him to bribe the emigration official.
The incident occurred on Friday when Shaikh planned to fly to Yemen where he got a job in an oil company. "On learning that his passport didn't have the ECR (emigration clearance required) endorsement, Shaikh consulted a ticket counter staff of Yemeni Airlines, Harish Gaikar (29). Gaikar guided him to pay bribe the emigration official to get the ECR stamp. Shaikh was caught red-handed after he offered the bribe," said Madhukar Sankhe, assistant commissioner of police (Airport division).
