Gold seized from flyer

Coimbatore: Customs officials and a special preventive team from the Coimbatore Customs Commissionerate intercepted a passenger at the Coimbatore airport when he arrived from Singapore by a Silk Air flight on Friday night and detained him on charges of smuggling 253 grams of gold. The passenger concealed the gold inside a packet of dates. The officials said that the passenger was a frequent flyer.
The passenger has been identified A Mathiyazhagan,37, from Virudhunagar. On Friday night, he arrived at Coimbatore from Singapore by a Silk Air flight. He had brought few packets of dates from Singapore and these packets were wrapped by cello tapes.
