Govt pitches hard for Srinagar-Dubai flight

Srinagar: Hoping to attract prospective tourists from gulf countries, the state government is in touch with Government of India to initiate the process for making international flight services to Srinagar operative.
According to sources, once completed the proposal to start Srinagar-Dubai flight will be forwarded to the union civil aviation ministry for approval. The government has already received a proposal from Fly Dubai for direct flights from Dubai to Srinagar.
“The state government is already in touch with the Centre. There are a lot clearances needed but the government is very keen so that this service can be started soon and number of gulf tourists increases,” sources said.
“The government also has to see which airline will come forward to operate and then it can be carried forward,” they added.
Director Tourism Talat Parvez said a formal proposal will be put before the aviation ministry and that the defense ministry also has to be taken into confidence.
“We also have received a request from Fly Dubai to get permission from Director General Civil Aviation (DGCA). If not direct, but we can at least introduce connecting flights via New Delhi or Mumbai,” Talat told Rising Kashmir.
