India to track commercial aircraft in real time

India will be tracking all commercial aircraft's in real time. The step is being taken in light of the disappearance of Malaysian Airlines MH 370 a few weeks ago which was flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing and went missing with 239 passengers and crew .There is still no trace of the aircraft.
Airlines have been instructed to ensure this tracking. It would be done by using on board electronic systems. These include Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System and Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast systems.Pilots have to report their positions at 15 minutes interval. Coordinates, speed and altitude have to be fed. Indian civil aviation authorities want absolute compliance and alternatives have to be in place over remote areas. All commercial operators and those aircraft's carrying cargo will also have to install these expensive equipment that will add to the cost of operations.
