Jaipur: The cases of bird hit at the Jaipur airport are becoming a big problem for the airport authorities. The rising residential colonies around the airport have become a breeding ground for the birds. The airport authorities have pressed the alarm button several times but failed to receive proper response.
From appointing bird chasers to firing guns to creating bubbles of LPG gas in the air to trying to scare birds away, the authorities are at wits end to curb the bird hits. "During summers, birds are attracted to the airport's green cover leaving us on toes during landing and take-off of flights. We are doing the best in our capacity but outside the airport is not in our control," said an airport official. Unconfirmed reports said in 2013, seven bird-hit cases took place resulting in delay of flights and causing loss to the airlines. Currently, there are 28 flights operating from Sanganer airport.
Airline officials admitted to a slight rise in the number of bird hits in the last few years owing to residential colonies surrounding both the terminal buildings making the area a dumping ground for sewage. Officials say that they have written it several times to the civic authorities but have got no response.
