SpiceJet COO finds passenger abuse of cabin crew shocking

Mumbai: "Ground staff, cabin crew in India take a lot of abuse," tweeted low-cost airline SpiceJet's chief operating officer Sanjiv Kapoor on Tuesday raising the issue of abusive passenger behaviour on a social networking site.
Kapoor put out a series of three tweets drawing reference to an incident that took place onboard the airline. He tweeted: "Abusive pax (passenger). Ground staff, cabin crew in India take a lot of abuse. It needs to stop." The second tweet said: "This kind of behaviour would land the abusive pax behind bars in many other parts of the world. You cannot abuse crew ever! It is shocking." The third one said: "Crew being called filthy names because preferred choice of meal not on board. What kind of upbringing does that reflect?" The airline did not comment on the issue.
Unruly passenger behaviour and lack of stringent legislation has been an issue of concern the world over, but what separates India from the rest of the world is the treatment such cases receive here. "An airline can file a police complaint against the passenger and some airlines have done that in the past. But nothing much comes out of it. The passenger gets bail and the airline does not pursue the case," said a top airline official, requesting anonymity.
