10,000 US dollars, rials, dinars seized from four at airport

Mangalore: In yet another catch, the officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport on Wednesday June 25 seized foreign currencies from four passengers.

The currencies, in US dollars, Oman rials and Kuwait dinars were seized from passengers identified as Nasir Kappil Abdulla, Abdulla Kunhi, Abdul Jabbar, and Khalid Hassainer, residents of Uduma and Hidayatnagar, Kasargod.

They were interceptd at the time of their departure to Sharjah by Air India Express flight IX823 on June 25.

The officials seized foreign currencies amounting to 10,000 US dollars, 1,950 Oman rials, and 1,450 Kuwait dinars from the accused. The currencies were concealed inside their hang baggages.

Superintendent of customs Marcus Pereira said that as per RBI guidelines, an Indian passenger while going abroad can carry foreign exchange without any limit, provided the same is procured from authorised money exchangers.
