Bangalore: Passengers flying out of the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) will have to pay a higher user development fee (UDF) from July 1. The revised UDF is Rs 1,368 for international passengers and Rs 342 for domestic passengers - 27.9% and 31.5% higher respectively than the present UDF.
The revised UDF will be for the period July 1, 2014, to March 31, 2015, as stated in an order issued by the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) last week.
The passenger service fee (PSF) of Rs 70 which both domestic and international passengers departing Bangalore were paying has been merged with the revised UDF. PSF is collected across all airports and is given to the government for the services of the Central Industrial Security Forces, which guards airports.
Passengers pay UDF when departing from the city. The amount is collected by Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), the airport operator, for the development, management, maintenance, operation and expansion of facilities. Some sections are exempted from paying UDF, including airline crew on duty, children under two years, involuntarily rerouted passengers, transit passengers (up to 6 hours), and sky marshals.
