Hijack alarm turns out to be mock drill

Ludhiana: Less than a fortnight after the Taliban attacked Karachi airport, panic gripped Sahnewal airport after rumours of a plane hijack spread. Later, it turned out to be a mock drill. Airport officials said the mock drill, which involved the police, fire brigade and medical teams, was conducted to check the response time of emergency services. They said airport authorities sent a request for emergency services to the police, fire brigade and medical team around 10.30 am on Thursday, airport authorities sent a message to police, fire brigade and medical team.

Airport manager VP Jain said the mock drill was planned in advance and information about it was concealed from departments concerned. He also said airport authorities were satisfied with emergency services teams, which reached the airport in the shortest possible time.
