No NaMo but nearly 80 VIP planes land at Latur

Mumbai: Latur Airport, which sees a maximum of 16 flights in a month, handled 76 VIP aircraft movements on Wednesday as Gopinath Munde's family members and politicians from across the country flew in for the BJP leader's funeral.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, however, was not present. "A 2 pm landing slot had been marked for the prime minister's plane, but he could not make it," an ATC official said.
Munde, who was killed in a car accident in Delhi on Tuesday, was cremated in his native village of Parli, Beed district, about 75 km from Latur.
Reliance Airport Developers Ltd, which operates the Latur and Nanded airports, sent additional senior staff from Mumbai to ensure trouble-free movement of planes carrying prominent political figures and government heads. The airport also saw at least 20 helicopter flights that acted as a shuttle service between Latur and Parli.
