Flights diverted, delayed at Ahmedabad airport due to Mumbai rains

Ahmedabad:  More than 700 passengers headed to Mumbai were inconvenienced as four flights, including a British Airways flight from London to Mumbai, had to be diverted to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Wednesday due to heavy rains in Mumbai.

The British Airways flight BA-0199 has been delayed for over 19 hours as the Flight Time Duty Limitation (FTDL) of the operating pilots had got over. The flight arrived at around 10 am on Wednesday and is expected to fly back to Mumbai on Thursday at 8am.

More than 300 passengers travelling in the British Airways flight were accommodated in various hotels in the city owing to the delay. "Since British Airways doesn't have regular flights to Ahmedabad, replacement for pilots could not be made. According to rules, the pilots need to rest at least 12 hours before they fly again, hence the delay," said an Airports authority of India official.
