Malappuram: The Intelligence wing of the Customs at the Calicut International Airport, Karipur, seized 2.4 kg gold valued at Rs.70 lakh from a passenger who arrived from Abu Dhabi on Monday.
Mustafa Meethal Thodukayil, 33, from Valiyaparamba, Kozhikode, who arrived at Karipur on Etihad Airways flight EY 240 from Abu Dhabi at 5.20 a.m., was detained by the Customs officers when they found his baggage tampered with after the initial X-ray. Mustafa’s baggage was subjected to a thorough check. The gold was found hidden inside a hotplate.
