Haze lowers visibility at IGI airport

New Delhi:  Despite Sunday night's thundershowers, Delhi witnessed a thick haze on Monday afternoon. Visibility at IGI Airport dropped from 4-km at 10 am to 2km by 2.30pm. High humidity levels due to easterly winds blowing over northwest India aggravated the low visibility conditions.

Some respite from the heat is expected as Met officials said a good spell of rain is expected over parts of the city between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. "Tuesday will also witness a partly cloudy sky and light rain or thunderstorm may affect some areas. The maximum and minimum temperature will be around 37 and 25 degrees Celsius," said a Met official.

Sunday's thundershowers also helped in keeping temperatures low on Monday. The city recorded 5.2 mm rain in 24 hours till 8.30 am on Monday. Other areas that recorded substantial rain included Pitampura with 15 mm rain, Ridge with 12.4 mm rain and Pusa with 12 mm rain. Monday recorded a maximum temperature of 37.2 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal, while the minimum was 25.2, two degrees below normal. The maximum did not cross 40 degrees anywhere in the city and touched a high of 39.7 degrees at Palam.
