Kannur airport to start by 2015-end

Kannur:  Kannur international airport is expected to see its first aircraft landing on its runways by December 2015, said Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

It has been decided that the airport will now have a 3,400-metre runway, instead of 3,050 metres, as planned earlier.  AECOM Asia Company Limited has been appointed as the integrated project consultant for  supervising the company from the development phase until the commissioning of the airport.

The airport will have a capacity to handle 4.67 million passengers  per year and is expected to ship 60,578 tonnes of cargo annually.

L&T has been awarded the contract for all the airfield work,   such as runways, taxiways, apron ancillary buildings required for housing CNS facilities, sub-stations, CCR buildings, the fire station, operational and other boundary walls, drains, retaining structures, the main approach road to the airport from the existing state road, car park,  and other projects.
