Surat: For airline companies aiming to begin operations from Surat, the latest news could be music to their ears. The airport's outbound passenger traffic, provided by two airlines, SpiceJet and Air India, has swelled by 20 per cent in 2013-14 compared to previous year.
Surat airport has registered a total footfall of 1, 80,000 in 2013-14 compared to 1,40,000 2012-13, official sources said.
Increased air connectivity from Surat to destinations like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Goa, Thiruvananthapuram, Varanasi, Hyderabad and Mysore has helped increase outbound and inbound traffic.
Recently, Bangalore-based ABC Airways announced plans to connect Surat with Bangalore and Bhubaneshwar from August.
EH Pathan, member of ?We want a working airport at Surat', said, "The passenger footfall has increased due to better connectivity from Surat airport. There is around 80 per cent passenger traffic in lean period and in off peak hours the traffic is 70 per cent on popular sectors."
