Kochi: Air Customs officials at the Cochin International airport busted an attempt to smuggle in 1.5kg of gold worth Rs. 50 lakh on Monday. They arrested 3 persons for trying to sneak in 13 gold biscuits by hiding them in their rectum.
It was only a few days ago 11 kg of gold was seized from three Karnataka natives at the airport.
The accused, identified as Badesh Mathlani, 23, Dheeraj pathak, 41 and Puru Singh, 42, all natives of Thane in Maharashtra, flew down here in two separate flights from Kuala Lumpur in the morning and were intercepted at the exit gate of the arrival hall while attempting to escape through the green channel. The arrest follows a tip-off to the Customs. While the first person was found carrying five gold bars, the other two were carrying four bars each.
