New Delhi: Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has decided to conduct surprise checks on Indian and international scheduled carriers as well as non-scheduled operators every month, in a move aimed at ensuring better safety for flyers.
"We conducted a lot of surprise checks in the past and have concluded that the DGCA needs to be more watchful to ensure safety in the skies. Surprise checks will be conducted on two domestic and two international carriers, plusone non-scheduled operator every month," said a senior DGCA official, who did wish to be identified. These checks will be besides the routine surveillances that these airlines need to go through.
The official explained that the audits would look at the key operational rules that need to be followed on all flights. "We will look at documents like minimum equipment list, fire fighting equipment and pilots' licence that should be carried by the crew on board.
