Civic body to reduce STP capacity near airport

Aurangabad:  Taking cognizance of the long pending demand of the airport authorities to reduce capacity of the proposed sewage treatment plant (STP) near the runway, the civic body is now making changes in its master plan.

Instead of going for a plant with a capacity of 10.5 MLD at Cidco (near the airport), the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will now cut down its capacity. It is also giving top priority to building an underground drainage near the highly sensitive area. Airport authorities were against building the STP in area saying the facility would attract birds.

Afsar Siddique, executive engineer in the AMC, said the civic body would soon cover the open drainage in the area. "Recently, we completed a survey of the area. We are now initiating steps in this direction. We are also planning to divert path of the drainage line near the airport," he said.
