Flight delayed after glass door breaks at Chennai airport

Chennai: A Chennai-Doha Qatar Airways flight was delayed by around 10 minutes after a glass door of a boarding gate shattered at the new international terminal of Chennai airport on Wednesday. Nobody was injured in the accident.

According to an official, the incident happened when a Central Industrial Security Force staffer tired to open the glass door of the boarding gate 17 for boarding passengers of the airline early in the in the morning. "House keeping staff had to remove the glass pieces and panels and clean up the place before passengers could board. The accident happened when passengers were about to walk through the gate," said an official.

Meanwhile, sources said due to infrastructure limitation, international airlines were struggling to maintain turnaround time of aircraft. "It is very difficult to ensure that an aircraft can be readied for a return journey after it lands from a destination in Chennai," said an airline official.
