Trichy: In recent times, there has been a spurt in the number of gold smuggling cases being reported from the Trichy international airport.
In the latest case, the air intelligence wing seized 200 gram of gold bar worth Rs 5.5 lakh from a 32-year-old passenger who landed in the city airport from Malaysia in an Air Asia flight on Sunday midnight.
The smuggling came to light when the officials carried out a usual check after the Air Asia flight landed at the airport.
When airport officials grew suspicious on the activities of Ahamed Faisal, 32, they put him under the metal detector scanner and frisked him in isolation.
