Panaji: Customs officials thwarted a gold smuggling attempt at Dabolim international airport on Monday. They apprehended three domestic passengers and one international passenger, all residents of Murudeshwar, Karnataka, and seized 2.916kg of gold valued at 75.77 lakh.
Officers of the air intelligence unit of Goa customs at the airport apprehended three domestic passengers— Sakerde Naushad Ahmad, Mohammed Madani Shariff and Riyana— and one international passenger—Sanaulla Shahul Hammed Hajeev— who arrived on an Air India flight, said commissioner of customs, Goa K Anbazhagan.
A customs officer said after a search of the three domestic passengers, they recovered 25 ten tola bars weighing 2,916g valued at 75.77 lakh. "The gold bars were concealed by the two male domestic passengers in their shoes and by the lady domestic passenger in her person," said a customs officer.
