Bhopal: Even a month after installation of aerobridges at Bhopal airport, absence of adequate number of pushback vehicles is depriving commuters from using the facility.
To make the aerobridges functional, airlines are demanding two pushback vehicles. However, airport authorities have arranged for only one.
Pushback tugs are special low-profile vehicles that push the aircraft backwards. In their absence, the aircraft can not make it to the aerobridge area and passengers have to walk to the aircraft or to the airport building soon after landing.
Though many aircraft are capable of powerback or moving themselves backwards on the ground, resulting jet blast wash may cause damage to the terminal building. Engines may also blow sand and debris causing damage to the engines. A pushback is therefore preferred method. As such, airlines are demanding two pushback vehicles to face any exigency.
