Chennai: Next year, parking at the Chennai airport could cost you almost 60 per cent more than it is at present following a nation-wide revision of parking fares undertaken by Airports Authority of India.
Being routinely revised every five years, AAI has now recommended 45-60 per cent hikes in parking fare across airports.
“Chennai being a first category airport which is controlled and operated by AAI will be getting the higher bracket of parking prices which is about 60 percent,” said Airport Director H S Suresh.
At the moment, staying in the airport with a car for over 10 minutes but under 20 will elicit a charge of `70, while parking for an hour will cost `135. This price is incrementally higher as the number of hours increases and for overnight charges as well. Once the new prices come in, parking is expected to be set at `200 for cars.
The revised parking prices have been set and will be implemented, once the new contractor is appointed. “This will take another 3-4 months as the tender has just been floated and until such time the current rate will be in force, under the existing contractor,” he added.
