Bhopal airport: Wait for aerobridges not over

Bhopal: Raja Bhoj airport authorities once again missed deadline to make aerobridges functional in second week of December. After getting aerobridges in place in September, airport authorities failed to inaugurate them owing to the absence of adequate pushback vehicles.

To make aerobridges functional, airlines are demanding two pushback vehicles. Airport authorities, however, have arranged for only one. Currently, Air India and Jet Airways operate their flights from Bhopal airport.

When contacted, Raja Bhoj airport director A Shanmugam said, "Tenders have been invited for arranging another pushback. The process is on." When asked deadline for arranging pushback, he said, "It will soon be arranged."

Pushback tugs are special low-profile vehicles which help push aircraft backwards.
