New terminal for non-scheduled operators soon

Pune: The Lohegaon airport will soon have a separate terminal facility for Commercially Important Persons (CIPs), mainly owners of small aircraft who use the airport as non-scheduled operators (NSOs). These are mostly the industrial houses that operate in and around the city.

"Construction of the new facility, located adjacent to the departures terminal for the scheduled flights, is nearing completion. We plan to start the CIP lounge following a security audit," airport director Manoj K Gangal told TOI on Saturday. Six newly constructed hangars for small aircrafts will also be commissioned along with the new facility, he added.

The audit exercise will follow installation of equipment such as x-ray machines for baggage check, closed circuit television (CCTVs) cameras and allied infrastructure. The equipment is being supplied by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) headquarters.
