Arunachal min seeks cut in fuel price

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh civil aviation minister Thangwang Wangham has requested the Centre to take into account the "unique features" of the northeast, particularly Arunachal Pradesh, while framing its proposed civil aviation policy for the country.

Attending a meeting on the draft civil aviation policy, convened by the Union minister of civil aviation Ashok Gajapati Raju in New Delhi recently, Wangham said a special package for the northeast would go a long way in addressing the aspirations of the region.

Stressing on the development of airports, Wangham said the strategically-located state should be viewed through the prism of its "inherent uniqueness". He requested the ministry to rationalize the cost of Air Turbine Fuel (ATF) for Arunachal.
"The present rate of tax on ATF in the state is 20%. The state government can review the rate in due course to attract fixed-wing airlines," he said. He further said the new policy should provide for a regional cargo hub within the northeast to widen the scope of various region-specific trade and commerce activities.
