Ex-MP quizzed after five bullets found in baggage

Chennai:  Immigration officials at Chennai airport early on Thursday questioned former Congress Member of Parliament J M Haroon for the possession of five live bullets in his baggage. He was later allowed to go after he submitted his firearm licence.

Haroon, who represented Periyakulam constituency from 2004 to 2009 and Theni from 2009 to 2014, was going to board a flight to Bengaluru around 6am when officials found the bullets while examining his hand baggage.

The immigration officials immediately handed over the baggage to Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officers. Haroon told security officials that he had a valid firearm licence and that the bullets were placed in his baggage by mistake. Soon, as per the instructions of the officials, his family members rushed to the airport with his original firearm licence document.
