Visakhapatnam: A majority of flights operating out of Vizag to destinations such as Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore are either sold out or charging exorbitant prices as the Sankranti festival draws to a close.
According to airline representatives, most of the tickets were booked at least 15-20 days earlier by people headed back to work in these three cities after a long Sankranti holiday.
All flights from Vizag to Bangalore, including those operated by IndiGo, Air India and Air Costa, were sold out for January 18 (Sunday). Also, flight tickets were sold out for Air India and IndiGo flights to Bangalore even on January 17 (Saturday). Flight tickets were, however, available on this route from January 19 (Monday onwards) but the fares in IndiGo, Air India and Air Costa hovered between a whopping Rs 13,448 to Rs 14,582 to Bangalore.
At the same time, while Air India flights from Vizag to Hyderabad on January 18 (Sunday) are sold out, only one seat was available on three flights operated by IndiGo daily for Rs 9,083. At the same time, though seats were available on Air Costa, the fares were Rs 13,590 on Sunday, dropping drastically to Rs 4,499 for January 19.
