Chennai: Flight operations were disrupted for five hours at Chennai airport on Sunday morning after dense fog reduced visibility to less than 100 metres.
Seven flights were diverted to Bangalore and Hyderabad. All departures were suspended between 5.45am and 9am.
Passengers who reached the airport to board early morning flights had to wait for more than three hours as departures were put on hold. Flights started to take off only at 9am. More than 25 flights were delayed.
An Indigo Airlines flight from Singapore, a GoAir flight from Mumbai, an Air India flight from Thiruvananthapuram, an IndiGo Airlines flight from Kolkata, a Jet Airways from Mumbai and an IndiGo Airlines flight from Delhi were diverted to Bangalore. The flights were scheduled to land in Chennai between 7.35am and 9.35am.
