Nedumbassery: An emigration SI who connived with smugglers to smuggle gold via Kochi International airport has been taken into custody by Customs Preventive department. The SI from Kollam is being interrogated in detail.
The SI’s name was let out by a native of Kasargod who was nabbed at Nedumbassery airport for trying to smuggle four kg gold on Thursday.
There are also indications that the SI had succeeded in trafficking six kg gold in similar way earlier. An inquiry is also being conducted into the possibility of the involvement of other officers in the racket.
