Pune: The new international airport for Pune seemed to have gained some momentum with the Pune Airport Advisory Committee (AAC) members planning to meet Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to stress the need for a green field airport on the outskirts of the city next week.
Although, the date for the meeting is not yet fixed, AAC members are hopeful that Fadnavis will hear their concerns in the first week of January.
For the past 12 years, Pune Inc has been lobbying strongly for a green field airport but even after the feasibility survey was conducted at two sites, including Khed Special Economic Zone, the project has failed to take off.
Last June, Mirror had reported on how plans for an international airport came to an end after Khed Economic Infrastructure Pvt Ltd (KEIPL) offered only 350 hectares of land, when 850 hectares was required to build the airport.
Interestingly, while AAC members are eager to discuss the fate of the international airport, top government officials claim no knowledge of such meeting being organised.
