Mopa bidders given 30-day extension after request by them: Parsekar

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Monday said that few of the bidder companies as linked to the proposed Mopa International Greenfield Airport have requested the government for extension in the date for responding to a related Request for Quotation (RFQ), and therefore, a decision has been reached to give extension for another a month.
Parsekar, interacting with the media, further stated that such a request was made to the government with the objective that many more bidders enter the fray, and the bidding process becomes more competitive.
The state government has received good response for its global RFQ, for the development of the said airport on design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis, with many national as well as international companies responding within a period of one month since floating of the RFQ.
Furthermore, all desiring companies were requested to participate in the pre-bid qualification. A pre-bid meeting was held on November 3, while the last date for receiving applications was December 12. The capable companies were to be shortlisted by January 12, 2015. The extension has now rescheduled the deadline for the same to February 12.
Parsekar, who had recently invited the NRIs, attending the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas, held in Gujarat, to invest in Goa and further assured them that the construction work of the Mopa Airport would begin by December 2015, said that the airport would prove to be a boon for the proposed Electronic City at Tuem as well as the proposed IT Habitat at Chimbel.
