Amritsar: Ahead of US president Barack Obama's India visit, security personnel at the hypersensitive Sri Guru Ramdas Ji (SGRDJ) International Airport here and all the sensitive establishments near the 553-km international border with Pakistan are on high alert.
After intelligence agencies issued a warning about possible hijack attempts during Obama visit, the Central Industrial Security Force has beefed up deployment and anti-hijack measures have been put in place at the airport, where three hijacked flights had landed in the past. The Border Security Force (BSF) is also on high alert and has started deploying maximum number of troops, including officers.
"We will be closing entry of visitors to the airport and devotees to Gurdwara Santsar situated in the international airport complex from January 20 till January 31 for security reasons," said airport director Gagan Malik on Monday. Entry to the airport from Rajasansi side had also been banned after 10pm till January 31.
