Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday referred for initiating contempt of court proceedings against Pathanamthitta district collector S Hari Kishore for not implementing its order to restore a stream that was allegedly filled up for building the runway for the proposed private airport at Aranmula.
Justice AM Shaffique issued the directive while considering a contempt of court petition moved by Mohanan V of Aranmula through senior counsel Renjith Thampan.
In an order issued on June 16th last year, the court had ordered the district collector to take necessary steps to restore a 'puramboke thodu', which is locally known as 'Karimaram Thodu', to its original position after hearing the affected parties.
The 22-metre-wide stream used to run through a total of 6 acres and 34 cents of land spread across two villages, Aranmula and Mallapuzhasseri, and was used for agricultural irrigation purposes.
