Chennai: Six flights were diverted and a few flights were delayed by two hours after fog reduced visibility to 100metres at Chennai airport on Saturday. Flight operations were affected from 3.30am to 8.30am.
An Air India flight from Muscat, an Etihad Airways flight from Abu Dhabi, an Air India flight from Dubai, an Air Austral from Reunion Islands were diverted to Bangalore. Two flights - a Jet Airways flight from Mumbai and an Oman Air flight from Muscat - were diverted to Hyderabad. The flights were scheduled to land at Chennai between 3.45am and 6.20am.
Flights that were scheduled to arrive between 7.15am and 7.45am from Kochi, Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai and Kuala Lumpur were delayed for two hours. Airlines delayed their departure from origin airports after information about poor visibility was passed on to them from Chennai.
