Mumbai: The airport's swanky international Terminal 2 completed one year of operation on Thursday. The highlight of this year will be the beginning of integrated operations, with domestic flights to be moved to the terminal.
Currently, T2 handles international passenger flights for 43 airlines across 46 destinations. In January, Tata-Singapore Airlines' Vistara became the first carrier to begin domestic operations from the terminal. "Other carriers are expected to move their domestic operations to T2 by the end of this year," said an official. "The switch will be carried out in a phase-wise manner from mid-2015 onwards," the official added.
An outstanding feature of the terminal is its art project spread across all its levels with 7,000 artefacts, a 3-km long art wall and works by over 1,500 artists. Another salient feature is that there are no separate lounges for each airline, instead T2 has a common luxury lounge spread across 30,000 sq ft for first- and business-class passengers.
