Kochi: In two separate hauls, customs officials seized 4.4kg of gold worth Rs 80 lakh at Cochin International Airport Limited on Monday.
In the morning, officials seized 1.4kg of gold from a parcel that arrived from Dubai. Gold, in the form of foils, was hidden inside aluminium foil.
Customs officials grew suspicious over the parcel when it was scanned through an x-ray machine at the air cargo complex. When checked, they found 12 gold foils hidden inside aluminium foils used for wrapping food items. The parcel was addressed to a man hailing from Kozhikode.
In a second seizure, officials recovered 3 kg of gold from a SpiceJet flight from Dubai that arrived at the airport around 6.30pm.
