4.4 kg of gold seized

Kochi: Officials of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit at the Cochin International airport here on Monday foiled two attempts to smuggle in gold and seized a total of 4.4 kgs of the precious metal worth Rs.1.20 crore.

In the first instance, officials, acting on an intelligence input, searched a Spice Jet aircraft that had landed here at 6.56 p.m. The officials found the metal kept concealed under a seat. They arrested one Mustafa, a native of Kannur, who landed here by the same flight, in this connection. In the second case, Customs officials seized 1.4 kg of gold worth Rs. 38 lakh, kept inside a cargo consignment booked from Dubai,
