‘Event stays in Bengaluru’

Bengaluru:  Days before Aero India 2015 began, there was a buzz that this would be the last one in Bengaluru and the event would move to Goa.

However, on Wednesday, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar categorically declared, "Bangalore is absolutely appropriate for this show. The next Aero India will also be (held) here."

The city, or rather the Air Force Station at Yelahanka, 25 km north of the city centre, has been hosting the biennial show and expo since 1996. The painful thought of moving it out had cropped up just when the brand had gained traction.

The Defence Minister admitted that he had been told the venue is not adequate and he had asked officials to assess the future needs of the event and whether a new venue was warranted.

"That thought vanished the moment I landed here," he reassured reporters. “This place is not supersaturated” (as was told to him). As compared to 2013, this year’s event is bigger on various aspects. For example, exhibition space had doubled to 2.5 lakh sq m.
