New Delhi: Hotel and Restaurant Association of Eastern India (HRAEI) has recently written to P Ashok Ganjapathi R, Minister of Civil Aviation and urged the government to give direction to airlines that in the event of flight cancellations at Port Blair, they should make alternative arrangements for stranded passengers, according to a press release. The association has also sought government intervention to ensure that ticket prices, especially during the high season are not unreasonable between key metros and Port Blair.
The HRAEI has also highlighted the inadequate number of flights from metros to Andaman and Nicobar Islands. As a result, one way tickets from Kolkata and Chennai to Port Blair during the high season are often at Rs 20,000 and above. This in turn limits the number of tourists from the eastern part of the country to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
