NSG commandos carry out mock drill at Kolkata airport

Kolkata:  With the threat of terror strikes looming large on Kolkata and other important locations in the eastern part of the country, National Security Guard (NSG) commandos have started a series of drills. While a special team from New Delhi started a three-day counter-hijack drill at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport in Kolkata on Monday, Black Cat commandos from the regional hub at Badu near the city departed for a series of such exercises in Gaya and Bodh Gaya.

"There are certain threats against which we need to be prepared. Ever since its modernisation, more carriers are operating from NSCBI Airport. Intelligence inputs have claimed that a hijack may be planned in an aircraft operating in this sector. Services between Kolkata, Bangladesh, Nepal, South East Asia and West Asia are at greater risk. The special drill by the team from New Delhi will help in better understanding of the area of operations and the situation on ground. Commandos from the regional hub at Badu will also be part of the operations," a source in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said.
