Fares soar as flights drop for Dabolim runway work

Vasco/Panaji: With work on the second phase of re-carpeting of the runway at the Goa international airport set to start from April 15, the number of daily flights has decreased. With daily flights reduced to just 39 arrivals and departures from the present 52 flights airlines have hiked air fares by an average of 50%.

The cheapest flight on April 14 from Delhi to Goa costs 5,848 per person, which is nearly 4,000 less than the 9,000 one will have to shell out for a one-way flight on April 17.

The most expensive flight from Delhi to Goa on April 18 costs a whopping 42,000 per person. A flight from Mumbai will set you back by a minimum of 3,000 to a maximum 20,000.

Last-minute flights are usually much more expensive than flights booked well in advance. April-May forms the peak season for domestic tourists to visit Goa due to the ongoing school holidays. And because of this demand for flights is higher, explain sources.
